A solid midfielder, Luke Wilshire was Australia’s captain in their 1-0 quarter-final defeat by Iraq at the 2004 Olympic Football Tournament.

A lack of appearances at Middlesbrough led to him moving to Bristol City for regular action. Competitive and a strong tackler, his passing and support in attack caught the national selectors’ eyes and he made his senior Australian debut against the Solomon Islands in 2004.

He played in three of Australia’s matches at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship.
