Adelaide United FC’s marquee signing Paul Agostino is available for selection to take on Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium on Sunday after overcoming a groin injury.
“Ago is doing very well. It was just a little niggle so he should pull up fine,” Vidmar said.
“He has come through a reasonably tough pre season and with the opening game of the season on Sunday, he could definitely play a part.”
It has been a frustrating time for Agostino since he started with The Reds, persistent injuries allowing him to make just 10 appearances in the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 Season. But despite the limited game time, the 32 year old managed to score four goals, proving that he can still provide enormous benefit and strike power up front for United.
“It’s fantastic for Ago to be part of the group again and we look forward to him having a solid game on Sunday,” Vidmar said.
“Understanding the setbacks that he’s had, it will be beneficial to Paul and the club that he gets through the game without any problems.”
The former Socceroos striker started in United’s opening match of the 2008 Pre-Season Cup against Melbourne Victory, however he came off in the second half after feeling some slight soreness.
In the Pre-Season Cup match against the Victory, Agostino and fellow United striker Cristiano showed they could be an ominous strike partnership this season, despite their short time on the field together.
With The Reds’ opening game of the season this Sunday, supporters still have time to secure a 2008/09 Adelaide United membership.
