Queensland Roar has secured the services of Dutch striker Sergio van Dijk on a two-year deal.
The 25-year-old striker has impressed in the Roar Roadshow training matches since arriving in Brisbane late last month, which included scoring a double in a 4-0 win over Redlands United just days after arriving in the country.
The former FC Emmen and FC Groningen striker has scored 52 times in 194 senior appearances in the two top divisions in Holland.
Van Dijk said he was delighted to have signed the deal with the Roar having been highly impressed by the professional environment at the club.
“I’m very happy to sign here,” van Dijk said. “I played for a second division club [in Holland] and it is not as professional as here … they are all positive things here in Australia.
“I want to score goals, that’s the thing I have to do. But I also want to help the team to play better football.
“Hopefully we can win the grand final.”
The striker said he was also excited to play under the vastly experienced coaching staff headed by Frank Farina.
Queensland will be in action again on Tuesday night as the Roar Roadshow continues at A.J. Kelly Field against Peninsula Power.
