It’s one down, one to go for Ajax, who signed Darío Cvitanich for the next five years and now make Heerenveen prodigy Miralem Sulejmani their top priority.
Banfield announced the seven-million-euros transfer six days ago, but the 23-year-old Argentine forward has since traveled to Amsterdam and today put pen to paper in a deal up to mid-2013.
Cvitanich, who also holds a Croatian passport, was promoted to El Taladro’s first team in 2003 and has since scored 32 goals in 93 appearances. He is considered by many as a possible Klaas-Jan Huntelaar replacement, although a different type of player.
Champions League on his mind
“I’m able to play in all offensive positions and I also have experience as an attacking midfielder. I’ll do my best for the team and I hope that we’ll win things. It would be splendid if I got the chance to play in the European Champions League,” an ambitious Cvitanich told reporters at the “ArenA”.
“I will be working on my Dutch and English in the coming weeks, but I’ve already talked to Edgar Davids. Too many stars play for Ajax and I can’t wait to take the field beside them.”
Sulejmani tops the list
The Argentine of course posed in an Ajax shirt, but the club’s next coach, Marco van Basten, is dreaming of seeing Sulejmani in the red and white, according to Algemeen Dagblad. The 19-year-old Serbian international has stolen the headlines this season, playing virtually everywhere in either midfield or attack and scoring 16 times in 38 Heerenveen outings.
He’s therefore also attracted attention from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton, Villa, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven, while his agent, Mihael Stanković, has said that German and Spanish clubs are also watching him. It could well be Hamburg and Real Madrid.
Van Basten will be able to check out the former Partizan starlet again, as De Superfriezen will take on Ajax in the Eredivisie play-offs, on May 1 and 5.
