Ontong Signs with Newcastle

Midfielder Shaun Ontong has signed a two year deal with the Newcastle Jets.
Shaun becomes the second signing for the club in the space of a week after AIS striker, Jason Naidovski, also signed a two year deal on Tuesday.
In 2006, Shaun Captained the Qantas Young Socceroos in the AFC Youth Championships in India. Trials with German and Slovenian clubs then followed, but the tenacious midfielder chose to return home in 2007 to sign with Adelaide United.
A graduate of the AIS academy, Shaun has recently attracted attention from clubs such as Werder Bremen, FC Nurnberg and PSV Eindhoven, through his work rate, determination, athleticism and versatility.
Today, Shaun expressed his excitement at joining the Jets as they look to defend their 2007/2008 Hyundai A-League Championship.
“Newcastle had a fantastic season, last season, and I just can’t wait to get there to prove myself. It’s going to be a very exciting time for me,” Ontong said.
“It’s a very successful club, they’ve always been involved in the Finals and they’ve qualified for the Asian Champions League, which is another great reason for me to join the Jets.”
