Napoli Closing In On Cavenaghi?

During his time at River Plate, Cavenaghi was described as one of the best young talents in world football.

However his career went off the rails after signing for Spartak Moscow in 2004. He was sold to Bordeaux in 2007, where he has started to live up to his potential.

The striker has been in superb form this season, and his 14 league goals have led the club up to second in the table, just four points behind leaders Lyon.

Cavenaghi has been linked with a host of top European clubs, but it appears as if Napoli may win the race to sign him.

The Partenopei are building an exciting team at the Stadio San Paolo, and transfer guru Pierpaolo Marino wants to partner Cavenaghi up-front with his fellow Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Lavezzi himself has admitted that Cavenaghi could soon complete his move to Napoli.

“Maybe Cavenaghi will be joining us,” said Lavezzi.

Cavenaghi, who has a contract with Bordeaux until 2011, will cost Napoli in the region of €10m.
