Elrich and D'Apuzzo Sign for Two

The first signings of the 2008/2009 Season have begun, with the club retaining two of its bright young stars, Tarek Elrich and Adam D’Apuzzo, for a further 2 seasons. Both players were integral in the Jets’ climb to the top in the 2007/2008 Hyundai A-League campaign, and have forged themselves into permanent members of Gary Van Egmond’s squad.

Elrich played in 23 of the Jets’ 25 games this season, and all but made the right-back position his own. A regular in the current Olyroo’s set-up, Tarek has been given his first Socceroos call-up for the Australia Vs Singapore game on March 22nd 2008 after his stellar season. A fan favourite already, Elrich will no doubt set EnergyAustralia Stadium alight during the course of the next 2 years.

D’Apuzzo’s versatility proved a valuable asset to the team’s tilt last season; slotting in at left-back and central midfield, before playing at left wingback in the Grand Final. A natural ball winner possessing a quality passing game, D’Apuzzo is another young Jet who has cemented his position in the current Olyroo’s squad, and seems Beijing bound after an excellent 2007/2008 season.

CEO, John Tsatsimas today said he was extremely pleased with the retention of two players in which the club sees plenty of promise.

“As we prepare for our title defence, it’s a great lift to the club to have these two players on board for the coming two seasons. Tarek and Adam are superb ambassadors for the game in Newcastle, and we’re proud to see them in a gold shirt for some time to come.”

“Gary Van Egmond and Mark Jones have put a lot of emphasis in youth development over the past 12 months, and we look forward to seeing Tarek and Adam develop further in their time here.” Mr. Tsatsimas said.
