200 people packed out the auditorium at the Newcastle United Sports Club last Sunday to celebrate the Socceroos first foray into the premier Asian competition, the AFC Asian Cup.
The national anthem was sung and cheered in the auditorium, creating a wonderful atmosphere but the nervous on-field performance on the pitch didn't provide many opportunities for the gathered crowd to celebrate. However, the Club roared to life when Tim Cahill nabbed an equaliser in injury time.
There's no room for error now for the Socceroos if they want to finish top of their group. Iraq and Thailand will not be easy-beats so its time for the team to step up and be counted. A huge crowd is anticipated this Friday, so come along to the Newcastle United Sports Club and help ensure that it isn't a Black Friday for the boys in Green & Gold.
Patrons have been delighted with the changes to the Newcastle United Sports Club with giant murals of the Jets, new beer lines, taps and giant plasma screens installed, making it the premier football destination in Newcastle.
Families and groups arrived early to have a meal at the Chinese restaurant within the club before the match.
The Sports Club has been decked out Green & Gold for the Asian Cup and we want to see you there wearing Green & Gold too. Carlsberg beer promotions will be on offer and there will be the chance to win Socceroo gear signed by Mark Schwarzer.
