Imagine getting a pass from Travis Dodd or doing a juggling drill with Jason Spagnuolo and Bobby Petta. That is what Daniel McGuire and his best mate Brett Rosie got to experience as Daniel was the lucky Adelaide winner of Telstra’s Next G competition.

The national Telstra competition gave a lucky person from each Hyundai A-League club location the chance to win an exclusive training session with the team, and Daniel and Brett were treated to an experience of a lifetime as they got to train with The Reds.

Coach Aurelio Vidmar welcomed the guys, introducing them to the squad before Assistant Coach Phil Stubbins put them through their paces with a number of running and passing drills.

Obviously nervous about rubbing shoulders on the pitch with a Hyundai A-League team, the guys took a little while to find their feet but once the nerves were gone, they made the most of it and thoroughly enjoyed kicking around with Adelaide United’s 2007/08 squad.

“It was awesome, a really good experience,” Daniel said.

Asked if it was much different to training with his local club, Daniel said there were a number of similarities with a few noticeable differences.

“It’s a lot quicker, more skilful and I suppose they don’t go for drinks like we do after training. There was one drill where I had no idea what was going on but it was great.”

Based on their experience and witnessing the team training first hand, how did the guys think Adelaide United would fare in the upcoming season?

“I reckon they’ll get to the grand final again and whether or not they win will be up to them but hopefully they do and I will be following them through the season,” Daniel said.
