Glory tour ends in style

Perth Glory has finished their four match Malaysian pre-season tour undefeated after dispatching Police FA in a clinical 4-nil performance on Saturday night.

New Glory striker Mate Dragicevic was again an imposing figure up front for Perth and continued his impressive early form to bag a double while fellow strike partner Nikita Rukavytsya scored yet again to make it five goals in his past three matches.

After a scoreless first half the Glory did all their damage in a wonderful spell after the restart where they punished their hosts with four well taken goals.

Dragicevic showed why he was hotly pursued by Glory coach Ron Smith during the off-season as he continually caused headaches for Police FA’s defence.

The first goal coming in the 52nd minute after a nice build-up involving Jamie Coyne and Anthony Danze who picked out Dragicevic in the box and he blasted it past the keeper.

Two minutes later Danze and Dragicevic combined again as the West Australian midfielder skilfully chipped over the defence to find the big striker who headed it into the top corner for his second.

The onslaught continued when Rukavytsya danced around a couple of defenders on the stroke of 60 minutes to fire home a wonderful shot from a tight angle.

The match was done and dusted when Naum Sekulovski made it four for the Glory with an easy tap in after Dragicevic unselfishly dished off a pass instead of blazing away in an attempt to secure his hat-trick.

“We have set about playing an attractive and exciting style of football and I’m delighted that we have been able to score well in each of our matches on the tour,” Smith said.

“Our goals have come about through a good understanding between the lads and that will only get better with the more matches we play.

“It has been a whole team effort with the defence combining well and setting up many of our attacking moves,” Smith added.

The Glory will arrive home on Sunday night but will have little time to rest with the team back on the pitch on Tuesday evening in a friendly against Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens, kick-off at 7.00pm.
