Adelaide strengthens its defence with new signing

The Adelaide United Football Club has continued to bolster its defence for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season announcing that defender Isyan Erdogan has agreed to terms with the club for one year.

Erdogan’s signing is subject to him being released by his current club Preston (in Victoria’s Premier League) which is seen as a formality, and the 24 year old will be a valuable addition to Adelaide United’s defence.

With experience in the old NSL, Erdogan can play in any position across the back and brings pace, agility and strength to the squad, complimenting the signings of fellow defenders Shaun Ontong and Brazilian Cassio.

Erdogan underwent a week long trial with United prior to the squad’s three week break and Coach Aurelio Vidmar was pleased with what he saw.

“We had a look at him a couple of months ago and he was very impressive,” Vidmar said.

“We watched him several times in Melbourne and he will give us a lot of flexibility across the defence.”

Erdogan was recommended to Vidmar by original Adelaide United player Goran Lozanovski, who is the current coach of Preston, while he has also played under new Adelaide United assistant coach Phil Stubbins.

When told about his move to Adelaide, Erdogan was lost for words at being signed by the 2005/06 Premiers and 2006/07 grand finalists. In describing the feeling of joining Adelaide United Erdogan said, “It’s quality. To be signed by a club like Adelaide United is brilliant and for the time I was there on trial the players and the club were excellent”.

Erdogan is scheduled to arrive in Adelaide to join the squad on Monday and he is looking forward to getting down to business and making an impression in the Hyundai A-League.

“Coming to Adelaide my goals are to win the championship and really stand out in the league but at the moment I’m just wrapped to be joining Adelaide United and it will be a fantastic opportunity.”
