Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League Championship winning team made a big splash at local clubs during the week as part of its Metro Roadshows campaign.
Big crowds were a feature of appearances by Victory players at Brighton Soccer Club, Hume United Soccer Club, and Clayton Soccer Club; but none more so than Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club, where over 500 children flocked to see Qantas Socceroo Archie Thompson and Qantas Under 23 representative Adrian Leijer.
All training sessions were an absolute success for all involved, especially for the juniors who got to meet and interact with their Hyundai A-League heroes.
The players were on hand to participate in training, provide advice and tips, as well as partake in photo and signing opportunities with the kids.
President of Hoppers Crossing, Roger Clay, was delighted to be given the opportunity to host the sport’s elite players at his club.
“Things couldn’t have been more exciting for the kids, members and even the mums. The ladies in the canteen sold more hotdogs tonight than we’ve ever sold over a weekend before.”
Archie Thompson, who scored five goals in Victory’s historic Hyundai A-League 2007 Grand Final win, was overwhelmed by the response of the young fans.
“After tonight’s turnout, I am staying clear of Hoppers Crossing,” he joked.
