Finals equation simple for Victory

Wed 31st Jan 2007

Melbourne Victory will be looking to secure direct qualification into the Hyundai A-League 2007 Grand Final and the right to host it at Telstra Dome in the second and deciding leg of the Major Semi Final against Adelaide United this Sunday (kick-off 6:00pm).

Victory is also hopeful of breaking its own Australian domestic attendance record – 50,333 set against Sydney FC at Telstra Dome last year – in what will be one of the most important matches in the short history of the club.

Over 30,000 tickets have already been sold for the blockbuster, with the majority of Level 1 and Level 2 seating already allocated. Tickets for the match are still available from any Ticketmaster outlet, by calling 136 100 or online through Ticketmaster.com.au.

Following the 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Major Semi Final at Hindmarsh Stadium last week, Melbourne must defeat its South Australian rivals to directly advance to the Grand Final.

A win for Victory will see it secure a home Grand Final at Telstra Dome on Sunday 18th February, while a scoreless draw will send the match into extra time and a penalty shootout if either side fails to break the deadlock.

Should the match go to extra time, two 15 minute periods will be played. As per FIFA regulations, the golden and silver goal rulings will not be used in any Hyundai A-League finals matches.

If Adelaide win the match or can produce a score draw then it will qualify for the Grand Final and host it in South Australia, leaving Melbourne to compete in the Preliminary Final at Telstra Dome on Sunday 11th February against the winner of Sydney FC and the Newcastle Jets.
