ANYBODY who has been to a Queensland Roar match at Suncorp Stadium will be familiar with the supporters at the northern end; known as ‘The Den’. They have been supporting the Roar since the Hyundai A-League began in late 2005, and they are already preparing for the big game on Saturday night.
The match against Sydney FC has an added significance for a few members of The Den, who will be representing the Roar supporters, ‘The Den All Stars’ for the annual curtain raiser against the Sydney FC supporters ‘The Lokomotiv Cove’.
‘The Cove’ will be confident of repeating last years result, when they defeated the ‘Den All Stars’ 3-0 in the inaugural clash.
The Roar fans however, will be looking to claim more than one win against Sydney FC on Saturday night, both on and off the field.
The disappointing loss from last season against the Sydney fans has not been forgotten by the Den All Stars, who plan to reclaim the title of ‘Best Supporters in the Hyundai A-League’.
In their quest for revenge over The Cove, Den All Stars Coach, Aaron Guthrie has been preparing a game plan and formation that will work best for the Roar faithful.
“I think we’ll surprise them with some great teamwork and attacking play – we have a few tricks up our sleeve,” said Guthrie.
“It’s payback time following our 3-0 loss to them last year so it should be a great occasion.”
The Den All Stars v Lokomotiv Cove fixture kicks-off at 5:30pm when the gates open and the two teams will play out a 40-minute match of two 20 minute halves.
Most of the players involved are hoping to be fully recovered from their match in time for them to do what they do best – support the Roar!
