Waugh And Arnold To Lineup In Celebrity Match

Tue 19th Sep 2006

Australian cricket immortal Steve Waugh and Socceroos coach Graham Arnold are set to lineup in a celebrity fixture ahead of the Central Coast Mariners’ derby clash with the Newcastle Jets this Saturday, 23 September.

Waugh and Arnold we be joined by the likes of radio personality Adam Spencer, ex-Rugby League greats Ryan Girdler, Cliff Lyons and Mark Carroll and the Mariners’ own Alex Tobin.

All proceeds from the celebrity match, received from bucket-collectors around Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium during the match, will be donated to local charity Give Me 5 for Kids, an organisation that has, since 1996, raised over one million dollars to buy sorely needed, high cost medical equipment that is not affordable within the Gosford and Wyong hospital’s normal budgets.

Give Me 5 for Kids has grown to encompass major fundraising promotions, everything from charity auctions to club nights, fundraising events and days, a major on-air auction of sporting and showbiz memorabilia and now even corporate donations from major Central Coast businesses.

The celebrity match will be the third of its kind at Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium, with actor John Waters, Anthony Field and Greg Page (the blue and yellow members of the The Wiggles) and Australian Idol finalists Marty Worral and Chanel Cole competing in previous editions.

"We’re very much looking forward to welcoming the likes of Steve Waugh, Graham Arnold and a host of other celebrities to Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium this Saturday ahead of what is a very important game for the Mariners," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"All proceeds will go to Give Me 5 for Kids, a fantastic cause, and I’m sure the celebrities will put on a great show, as they have done in the past, for the spectators that arrive early on."

The Mariners make their return to Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium this coming Saturday, 23 September when they line up against local rivals the Newcastle Jets. Kick off is at 7pm.

Steve Waugh and Graham Arnold will headline a celebrity fixture in the name of charity for Give Me 5 for Kids that is to kick off shortly after gates open at 5pm. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive free Central Coast Mariners thunder sticks.
